What computers do I use? I build most of my PC's myself.
My interest in computers started early. When I was
six years old my brother brought home some IBM punch
cards, which he gave to me to play with. I loved
those punch cards with their mysterious holes.
My current system is: Antec 3700 quiet case, Super Tornado PSU, 1GB RAM, AMD Sempron, 160GB Seagate, 160 GB Seagate Firewire, Radeon 9700, etc. It has more than enough horsepower for any office application. It does fair with editing large images and editing video. Good enough for my uses. Some newer games might tax it. Windows XP.
My system until winter 2004 was AMD Duron 850MHz, ASUS mainboard, 500MB SDRAM PC-100 from Crucial, Maxtor 60 GB drive, a CD burner and 52x whatever CD player, I-Storm HD cooler, InWin A500 case (ought to be in the MOMA for it's industrial design) built like a tank, cover is held on by replacement "hot rod" thumbscrews for quick access. Cooler is Chrome Orb, which is okay, but not the best for this hot a processor.
Last system: AMD K6 200MHz, ASUS TXP4-X mainboard, BIOS Award 51.4G, 32MB then upgrade to 128MB EDO RAM, Hard Disk 4.0 GB Western Digital, O/S Microsoft Windows 95 / RedHat Linux 5.1 then upgrade to SuSE 5.1 Linux and WinMe later before getting new machine, etc.
Previous to that: Intel Pentium 75 on Zappa mainboard.
Previous to that: Intel 486SX25 with 4MB.
Previous to that: Intel 286 with 2MB. It ran Windows 3.1. Actually had windows 2.0 in a box kicking around somewhere. You know the version that looks like DeskView.
I own a Mac, the first model to have an internal HD. It cost about $3000 base new, but I got it for $20 from the local county sale (it's an ex-DC gov't machine).
I had a C64. Wanted an Atari 800, but they cost too much with that !@# disk drive. I chose the C64 because of its music synthesis capability. Sold it later.
First machine: TRS-80 16K LII I purchased myself with savings out of high school. I still have this system stored away!
